Actually, the post about priests urging men to beat their wives wasn't yours, it was Lizzies. So many posts, hard to keep up. SI is slow right now, and I am too frustrated with to follow it back all the way, I think she was talking about modern day Ireland. As for the "submission" part, by Paul, it's kind of contrary to what Christ said, about there being no male and female in heaven. Thomas Cahill's latest, "Desire of the Everlasting Hills," spends some time on the question, apparently Paul's message also, for the most part, recognized that women are equal to men in God's eye. But the submission part is what gets emphasized, wonder why?;^) According to Cahill, it's a distortion.
