"PFAT's where it's at" is a pretty cheap and easy call to make; all it takes is a glance out the window. PFAT's the incumbent, has a huge and dissatisfied installed base, a huge starving channel anxious for anything that will keep them out of Chapter 11, and the ZD Puppet Press ready to hype the butt off anything that will provide a shot in the arm to their flagging circulation (remember those NT 5 "Special Issues" 18 months ago before the thing went to hell in a handbasket and turned W2K)? In the meantime, thin client advocates have to build entire new infrastructures among developers, customers, networks, thin-device manufacturers and IT mindset. It takes time to deliver those things. Linux has to mature out of its geeks-only stage, and the wheels of Justice turn exceeding slow.

This is *not* to say that the good guys won't continue to make progress and build momentum, and revenue, during calendar 2000. We know how the story of David and Goliath ends. The time is just not yet, and M$FT shareholders will benefit in the short term.
