(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays
Perry Como
Written by Al Stillman and Robert Allen

- Peaked at # 8 in 1954

Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays
'cause no matter how far away you roam
When you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze
For the holidays, you can't beat home, sweet home

I met a man who lives in Tennessee and he was headin' for
Pennsylvania and some homemade pumpkin pie
>From Pennsylvania folks are trav'lin' down to Dixie's sunny shore
>From Atlantic to Pacific, gee, the traffic is terrific

Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays
'cause no matter how far away you roam
If you want to be happy in a million ways
For the holidays, you can't beat home, sweet home

(Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays)
<instrumental second line>
(When you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze)
<instrumental fourth line>

For the holidays, you can't beat home, sweet home

It's true- Del is as irrational as a Christian. Those emotional mental models will get you every time. I appreciate your support for the rational- but you SHOULD know that Michael M celebrates the irrational.

One can sympathize with those annoyed by Christmas- it IS everywhere. The TV, the supermarket, the mall, everywhere public gets decked out, and so many private houses too- and for all people MOAN about municipalities not being able to have religious displays they STILL decorate for Christmas- they still put up lights and banners and stuff stuff stuff. So although I LIKE it, and enjoy it, I can understand why this would be a very annoying time of year if you didn't.

So in the sense that Christmas (especially because it is such a great commercial mechanism) overpowers everything else it DOES steal this time of year. I know some of my Jewish and Hindu friends feel a little sad about this- in the sense that they feel they have to have trees and give presents so their kids won't feel so left out. And I think Del and Christine do too.

Thank you. Very sensible. Your contribution, unfortunately, has probably earned the expressed point of view full status as "a guy thing."

Merry Christmas
