>>2001, however, isn't. That's when I predict it will happen<<

excuse me but you can't say msft is headed for a double from here based on a huge upgrade the pc cycle, and at the same time, in just 12 months time, fugetaboutit. start ripping out the NEW hardware, the NEW software and put in these THINGS.

qwik, on second thought YOU CAN SAY IT, but it would be really really dumb of you to say it.

Real life Wintel upgrade merry-go-round... An e-mail sent out at the 15k+ employee company I work for...

> You may have read an e-mail that was sent yesterday to all **** Managers regarding the corporate release of Outlook 2000 and Internet Explorer (IE)5.0. This release is scheduled for mid-November.
>
> Outlook 2000 is the upgrade for Exchange and Schedule +. Microsoft stopped supporting these two older programs over two years ago, and this is one of the reasons for this migration. This is the first phase of the Microsoft Office 2000 migration.

> Because the installation of Outlook 2000/IE 5 requires 32 MB of memory and 200 MB of free disk space, not all *** users will be able to install this upgrade. Our testing has shown that Outlook 2000/IE 5.0 will run on our Compaq 590 (low end) computers with 32 MB of memory and only the standard software programs installed. It runs slowly, but it will run. Additional applications and multitasking cause further slow downs. Also, once these programs have been installed, the only way to uninstall them is a time-consuming rebuild of your computer.

> NPG users can request the upgrade by sending an e-mail to the ***, or by calling ***-9000. **** will then determine if the user's computer meets the minimum requirements for installation. If it does, installation instructions and access to the upgrade files will be provided.

> Those who don't have computers that meet the minimum requirements will have to wait for this upgrade until new computers are installed next year. These new computers will come with the Windows 2000 operating system. We will convert any users who do not already have Outlook 2000, IE 5 or
> Office 2000 at the time the new computers are installed. We hope to complete our installation of new computers before 3rd quarter 2000.
>
> Please note that the release of Outlook 2000/IE 5.0 will not be until next week, at the earliest. Also, in order to minimize disruptions as we move into the year 2000, there will be a freeze on all migration of these programs between December 15, 1999 and January 7, 2000.
