Right!!
Sure, you can put on free TV, but you will watch the most popular channels...
There are channels...what are they channel 25 and up? They play syndicated reruns and local commercials.
He who holds the advertising money wins. Period.

Consider this similar to open access with @HOME. Most superficial investors think it will be negative for the company longterm. This is not true. While completely free ISPs will take a slice out of AOLs stock price in the short term, long term its an opportunity for AOL.

It will force them to offer better a better service. It will force them to further expand eccomerce. The AOL name can still go a long way in a free environment (as long as it's offered for free as well). People will sign up with AOL for free the same reason they sign up on ICQ and IM, because everyone else has it.

Short term, free IS is bad for AOL, but longterm, its a huge opportunity, and will force AOL to be a better company. Stockholders and consumers win.

Jay

Good news! Fed. leaves interest rates unchanged and the bias is neutral - Dow is up 75, Nasdaq up 82! Party on ! Wild turnaround!
