Yo_Glenn, can you or anyone help me out here. I'm on another thread and found the following post below. Since I'm not a techie I can't add anything to his request. I'd like to see if he is for real.

OK - I am getting ready to do my own tests with Rambus and i820 based boards
and would like to give DRDRAM a fair shake. I will have most of the pieces
in place next week, so now I will ask for suggestions and/or
contributions...

1) Besides the 'normal' benchmark tests (Winstone, STREAM, etc.), does
anyone have some specific application benchmark that they would like to see
run? If it requires a license for the software, I probably won't be able
to do it however unless someone wants to donate the software. (My site isn't
sponsored like most of those sites that are quoted here - at least not
yet!).

2) For the computer engineers in the NG, if you have any custom benchmarks
you would like to see run please let me hear from you. I have received a
'contribution' from one individual who has some very specific features he
wants to test out.

If anyone has any other ideas, pointers, comments, benchmarks, etc., etc., please post.

Yo Glenn,

Some RAMBUS comments from Paul Engel on the Intel thread:

Ten - Re: "As for Rambus, well, my hope is that in about three or four months, we'll see Rambus prices drop considerably. If not, oh well, perhaps PC133 will fit the bill by then."

Here's my prediction.

When Intel introduces TIMNA, the price of RAMBUS memory will start to take a sharp drop and then continue to decline at a healthy pace.

TIMNA will be targeted at the "value" segment, and its use of RAMBUS memory will allow it to use the SLOWER speed grades with exceptional performance - due to the on-chip RAMBUS controller.

Hence, TIMNA will sop up all the 600 and 700 MHz (300/350) RAMBUS chips that are TODAY essentially non-useable because of their inferior performance in Camino/820 or 840 systems.

With RDRAM makers able to sell their slower RDRAM units into the TIMNA PC space, they can then spread their income across their entire production of RDRAM speed distributions, allowing faster price drops on all speed grades.

Paul

And then this:

Gary - Re: " can you provide your estimated timetable for the sequence of events?"
I'm going to assume that Timna will be launched no later than the August/September Year 2000 time frame.

Assuming Intel does a "standard Intel launch", Timna should ship to OEMs in July or thereabouts, and RAMBUS orders will pick up at that time.

So, look for the RAMBUS situation to BEGIN to perk up - with lower prices - in the July - September time frame - and continue from that point.
