I don't know your pastor, so I wouldn't dream of calling him ignorant, but I would be interested in why he has taken this viewpoint, which I assume he does, or else you wouldn't have mentioned him. A SYMBOL is not an abbreviation and I think that is where we differ in our understanding of the use of X. (your calling my holiday greetings to several here this morning some kind of insulting gesture) Hmmm- actually I don't remember saying "Oh hey! BillV made an insulting gesture, everyone!" But I DID find the superfluity of Xmas Greetings by several people back and forth over and over to lack a certain credibility after a while. ANd someone even admitted that there was an element of sarcasm and irony, or something similar to that, in them.
