Jim, <From what I'm hearing, Athlon 800s are sampling now and will be available after January 10th.>

Yes, but if AMD's definition of "available" is now the same as Intel's, imagine how long Joe Consumer will have to wait before getting Athlon 800 systems.

By the way, in case you haven't noticed, Intel has always had 800 MHz Coppermine samples ever since the August demo at IDF. So you can imagine how long Coppermine 800s have been sampling to customers.

<Ten, fess up now, have you been reverse engineering the Athlon?>

But of course! In fact, we have four of those reverse-engineered Athlons right now running on one of our 460GX test benches! And as you might expect, each Athlon is easily capable of running 1.7 GHz. Boy, the guys in the lab sure don't want to go back to those slowpoke Merceds anymore!

In all seriousness, should it be any surprise to hear that Intel might be reverse-engineering an Athlon? You think Intel is just going to make assumptions about AMD's capabilities?
