The product is available for free download at Inprise's Web site, www.borland.com/jbuilder. ''This overwhelming response proves that Java developers are very interested in a Java development tool for the Linux platform,'' said Dale Fuller, interim president and CEO of Inprise Corporation. ''The free download is part of Inprise's continuing commitment to the Linux platform and effort to provide customers with the solutions they need to conduct business on the Internet. This is not just a trial or demonstration version, but a production quality tool that Java developers can use now to benefit from the power, performance and productivity of JBuilder across multiple platforms, including Linux, Solaris and Windows operating systems.'' ''I rely on JBuilder because it offers me a full suite of tools to build and deploy Internet-based applications in pure Java,'' said Jeff Bowen, senior software engineer for a leading Internet hosting and services company. ''JBuilder Foundation for Linux enables me to continue building powerful Web applications, in half the time that other Java tools, while helping to jump start our internal projects on the Linux platform.'' The release of JBuilder 3 Foundation comes in on the heels of the announcement of the Linux software development kit (SDK) available through a collaboration between Inprise and Sun Microsystems. The companies, with significant help from the Blackdown team, produced a beta version of the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) for the Linux platform. The agreement enables programmers to develop and run applications based on the Java 2 platform and deploy them on Linux workstations and servers, as well as simplify moving existing Java applications to the Linux operating system (OS).
