If I remember correctly, you disliked "What Dreams May Come" (Matheson is a really weird writer). His heaven was in a way what you described--- everyone created his own world-- dictated his own reality-- but still there was a larger order, and a greater reality with rules governing it if you stepped outside your own creation. In a way we already do that here and now, only we do it with an emotional paintbrush rather than the "real" one. We exist within our preconceived parameters, and it is really shocking to be forced outside of them. SOmetimes impossible- and we rush back to the comfort of the familiar.

My family believes everyone has their own version of reality, some more quintessentially unique than others.

This is not meant to argue that there is not an objective reality, just that people tend to derive more enjoyment from their own version.
