[World DRAM Prices] Higher Output of DRAMs Causes Falling Spot Prices
December 22, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Spot prices for 64Mb DRAM microchips fell in the most recent period, as calculated by the 30-day rolling average. The prices were influenced by increased production after the price rises from July.

As for prices of memory modules, the spot price for 64MB dual inline memory modules (DIMMs, PC100) declined by 1.66 percent from the previous week to US$80.64 in North America, down 2.52 percent to US$83.86 in Europe and down 3.20 percent to US$78.40 in Asia.

The worldwide DRAM price survey was conducted by ICIS-LOR.

On the other hand, the 30-day rolling average prices of 64Mb DRAMs (PC100, 8M x 8) for large users between Nov. 4 and Dec. 3 were US$11.25 in North America, US$11.43 in Europe and US$10.81 in Asia. Compared with the 30-day rolling average prices up to Nov. 26, the prices in the most recent period increased by 1.68 percent in North America, by 1.05 percent in Europe and by 2.25 percent in Asia. ICIS-LOR has offices in London, Houston and Singapore.

Korea's Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd., Micron Technology Inc. of the United States and Germany's Infineon Technologies AG have been increasing their production of DRAMs.

PC makers are more bullish in planning their PC shipments for the first quarter of 2000, as compared with prior years. However, PC makers aim to reduce the memory capacity to be installed per PC. Therefore, DRAM microchip supplies in that quarter of 2000 could turn out to be excessive.
