I think that my poor dear could have handled it better if it had not been presented as a fait accompli. He tends to be quite sensible and level-headed normally--a screaming necessity with four boys, three in their teens and the fourth on the verge of the teens. It was having the kid walk in the door with an earring, no warning, that threw him for such a loop.

It was probably awful of me to laugh so much when he was still popping off. LOL still! I suspect that he told me so that I could put it into a bit of perspective. When he started the progression through tattoos to a stud in the tongue, I was incoherent with laughter. It took me a few moments to collect myself enough to remind him that the domino theory did not hold up all that well in Southeast Asia, never mind with teenagers.

If an earring is the worst that happens as his sons establish themselves as separate persons, all is well.
