TWY - Re: 'Any chance Intel would consider a takeout of 3COM to move up the network ladder? I think that company could use some new management."

This rumor was floated two or three times over the past 12 or 18 months.

Some analyst even reported that he saw Benhamou at Intel or Intel's top brass at 3COM - I forget which.

I don't think 3COM has the right products that would fit Intel's roadmap. Intel wants to play the Communications Component Supplier role - and owning a Big company like 3COM would cause friction with their other (potential) customers.

Oh, please, no, not COMS again!

This persistent rumor has been one of my worst nightmares. COMS has NOTHING - repeat NOTHING - to offer except for negatives.

Opinated yours,
Ibexx

Hi WatsonYouth,

I highly doubt Intel would ever purchase 3COM. The cultures don't match (please reread), nor does it seem to make strategic sense. Also, on the product-lines which compete, Intel has been successful. I would be very much against a 3COM acquisition due to the different cultures.

Regards,
