Merry Solstice everyone!!! It's now Dec. 22. Let's all celebrate the real "reason for the season". The days will no longer be getting shorter. Tonight will be the closest full moon for over a century. Dec. 25th will be the first day when the daylight hours will be getting longer. Let's all worship the SUN, the giver of all life. Soon we will be able to once again plant our crops. And South Texas will be 90 again. Shit.

Del

See, I told you that what we see when we look at the stars isn't very different. I, personally, don't care about the historicity of Noah's ark or the parting of the Red Sea. The Pentateuch was an oral tradition for thousands of years before it was written down. Fundamentalists believe every word is the literal word of God, but not all Christians are fundamentalists. Catholics, for example, are not.

The Earth is, indeed, an insignificant speck in the Universe. I feel quite awed, and quite small, when I contemplate the Universe, and think of eternity. But I also wonder how it came to be in existence. If it always was, why? And if it wasn't always, why? It's impossible for me to contemplate existence without the simultaneous contemplation of non-existence. Why does the Universe exist? Why does anything exist? Will it end? Ever? If it ends, what will be left, if anything? And if it goes away, where did it go?

And what is life? Is consciousness something that disappears forever when the conscious being dies? Or does consciousness somehow continue? Is the Universe conscious? Is matter conscious?

So on and on.

How about you?
