Hutch, Greenspan was appointed in '86, and the crash occurred under his watch. his appointment was not a result of the crash, but a result of Paul Volcker retiring. just trying to keep the facts straight.

as for the picture and the potential for bleakness, the current stock market mania surpasses that of the 80's in every respect. the bond market is simply delivering a verdict with regards to the Fed printing money like there's no tomorrow. will it matter? no-one can tell for sure, but the only thing i can see that the bulls can really point to is that stock prices are going up. well, some are anyway. i don't profess to know when the bubble will unwind, but i guarantee you that it eventually will. and since it is built on massive leverage that permeates the whole financial system, it won't be pretty.
