Market Makers are active today by: Flooor_Trader 12/22/1999 10:07 am EST Msg: 73308 of 73323 Don't be concerned by being lower on the day. The Market Makers are short and need to cover. They are looking for stock. However, given the relatively low volume this morning on a higher open, they have chosen to short a slight bit more while pulling their bids to shake some stock out of weak hands. The old "sell 50,000 at a higher price, buy 150,000 at a lower price, net long 100,000." The interesting thing is that higher prices are NOT making more shares available, which panics these guys. They had no choice but to take it lower for a moment to shake out the weak shares. I am on Pac Exch, believe me, the option premiums they are paying reflects a true shortage of shares. The MM's do not want to be short 1 share later today.
