***OT***To American Spirit and appro,

Have either of you heard the rumor that SEG is going to offer linux b-to-b free ISP?

I haven't heard any concrete details yet.

But if SEG smartens up a little (not that hard, I think), and learns to massage the messengers, that could be worth a 50 - 100 point pop in the stock.

Regards,

Larry

PS--Disclaimer. I haven't heard any such rumors.

PPS--Disclaimer. I am currently long SEG.

PPPS--Apologies to Mark Oliver (thread founder), for wishful thinking.

Nice reminder of the danger of "defending the indefensible".
However, we do have a tool to gauge the health of disk drive companies. At least the ones that sell into retail. Which is the prices posted by on-line computer sellers. So far I see 10-GB drives staying firm at $130, 13-GB at $140, and 20-GB near $190.

Some posts here indicate that late December to early January is the killer for disk prices. I think that was true in previous years mainly due to over-build by Compaq and IBM. But since IBM and Packard Bell are out of the retail PC business, and Compaq seems to have learned its lesson, maybe disk drives will not be in a glut this January.

I see you like MXTR. With their pre-announcement of a smaller loss, is that a trend toward profitability ? So far I have not seen any revision in MXTR's expected results in Zacks or First Call. By the way, I have bought into the DD stocks in a big way under the assumption that we are at maximum pessimism, and can only go up from here.
