Sorry for cluttering the board but I'm on vacation. Isnt this good news for TLAB. I remember when the discussion sometime ago found this news would be very important to TLAB. Trying to sift through the forest to get an idea as to what we may see for TLAB in 2000.

BELL ATLANTIC GETS OK TO OFFER LONG DISTANCE

The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday approved Bell Atlantic Corp.'s bid to offer long distance telephone service in New York, marking the first time since the 1984 break-up of AT&T that a ``Baby Bell' was allowed to offer
distant calling service in its own region. Under the 1996 Telecommunications Act,New York-based Bell Atlantic, the No. 2 local phone carrier, had to give competing carriers extensive access to its local network, bolstering Competition by giving customers greater choice. More...

These lines from the street.com piece seem to say volumes:

"Part of the impatience with Tellabs stems from its reluctance to promote half-cooked plans to the analyst community.

"We're not the kind of company that goes out and hypes up new technology before we have it," says Robert Pullen, Tellabs vice president of marketing and engineering. Meantime, Tellabs can count on the durable performance of its existing offerings."

It is amazing that the NN talk keeps going around. A good treatment with RR (that is ROTO-ROOTER) would keep the lines clear.
