GENE is actually not a penny stock. It one of the oldest biotech companies around (30+ years). I bought it because it was very cheap, and management had been extremely thrifty over the years, unlike many biotechs that burn cash.

SCII, on the other hand, is complete crap. It was an instrumentation company done in by inept management and the now infamous "death spiral" floorless convertible bonds. New management has formulated a vague Internet strategy, and that has the clowns buying with both hands.
