Coverage by Major Brokerages

Both DLJ and MSDW were on the last Amkor conference call. There are rumours of a potential coverage of a major firm in the week of 10th Jan. And, amazingly, Goldman Sachs under its name owns almost 14 million shares -- more than 1/10 of outstanding shares of AMKR stock.

TSM has five covering analysts while AMKR has nine. DLJ currently covers TSM -- the number one wafer outsourcing company in Taiwan. TSM has similar revenue and grow rate -- 51c/77c for TSM vs. 70c/108c for AMKR 1999-2000 -- about 50% growth. However, TSM has a market capitalization of almost $70 billion -- twenty times of AMKR.

According to recent Chinese newspapers, almost every chip company in Taiwan shall have a very strong 4th quarter roughly equal to the sum of the first three quarters of 1999. AMKR earned 21c last quarter. Any one can make a guess about the fourth quarter? (The average estimation is 23c)
