Spending inches up

8:41 a ET
U.S. consumer spending rose 0.5
percent in November while incomes
grew 0.4 percent, the government said
Thursday, in line with Wall Street
estimates. Separate reports showed
that orders for big-ticket manufactured
goods rose 1.2 percent last month, a
bit stronger than expected, while
jobless claims rose 14,000 to 281,000
last week. Financial markets showed
little reaction to the data.
