I tried to delete the logical dos drives in my extended partition but got this message when I tried?

"could not change partitions, because the disk could not be locked."

When do you get this error? Is it after directly booting to DOS and running Fdisk? Is it after starting your computer without starting Windows and running Fdisk? Is it after running Fdisk in a DOS Window? Is it none of these?
