Ardner, that probably means that some large customers with priority were grabbing every share available for shorting. Sometimes you have a stock that is stable and has every indication that it should be shortable, LAMR for example, but shares are very hard to find. If you look behind the scenes you will see a large convertible issue or long positions that are locked in for a period of time from an IPO or merger. These locked in positions will be shorting to hedge the risk of their locked in position and thus gobble up the shares. Hard to find shares are one indication of a good short.
