Elizabeth, This site is so veiny and inhomogeneous that even a sample of each square foot would not be fully representative. More samples give a higher level of confidence and they have taken quite a number. Of special interest is the relative widths of the low gold zones compared to the rich zones because I doubt they are going to vein mine it. They will bulk mine it and in that case the amount of barren material that will go through the whole process and yield no gold(but have costs) is significant.
It looks as if they are doing a reasonable job and the next phase will be a number of short drill holes, possibly drilled at odd angles from the few good pad sites I caould see from the terrain views.
