Actually, Pele and Ben Hogan are both on the list. However, I don't like lists like this because it is impossible to compare athletes of different generations....let alone different sports.

OT: Here's a link to the ESPN page "100 top North American athletes of the century". Pele is not included for geographical reasons. The list is sorted by rank, alphabetically, and by sport. Where's cyclist Greg LeMond? I think Carl Lewis should have been ranked higher than 12th. This is also the list used for the TV profiles of the top fifty. espn.go.com
