I couldn't get feedback on this from my friends on the SUNW thread, E. I might as well have been posting about Bre-XLinux and assembler -- The CFO of M$ is leaving for a fiber optic start-up. That got me to thinking...

OT: Fiber Optic start-up (re-post)

I've been giving a lot of thought to this fiber optic thing. People are doing 'green energy' successfully. Why not 'green bandwidth'?

'Fiber optic wires from industrial hemp' may be an innovation who's time has come. Consider this; the oldest fabric known to man is a pair of hemp pajamas more than 8,000 years old. Henry Ford built a car from hemp that as well used hemp oil fuel. The original deisel engine as well was meant to run on hemp oil. There are hemp pancakes, hemp tortilla chips, Mu Shu hemp, hemp pizza. The list goes on.

Christopher Columbus sailed to the New World (here) with hemp sails. Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag out of hemp. The Gutenberg Bible was printed on hemp paper as were *most Bibles (and Unix manuals) until right before the turn of this century.

Carl Sagan theorized that the cultivation of hemp led to the invention of agriculture and consequently all of civilization! -- Carl Sagan died, but his vision of billions and billions of hemp plants born free, as free as the wind blows, as free as the amber waves of grass grows against the purple mountain's majesty; from California to the New York island, -- hemp fiber-optic, high bandwidth, strung out for miles (and miles and miles), packets and page hits. Roots, Rock, Routers!
