That Bloomberg article seems to indicate that the market still isn't aware that Cube will be around after the Harmonic acquistion of Divicom. How the market can value Divicom at over $40 dollars a share and the chip side only $13 doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Not that my opinion means anything.

C-Cube, which is being acquired by Harmonic Inc., a maker of
fiber-optic equipment, rose 6 5/8 to 60.

2. Laser Disk Players

The following trends in the market for laser disk players were observed in 1999:

The growth rate of market demand has been similar to that of 1998. By the end of 1999, total demand may reach 15mln units.
Market shares of VCD players, Super VCD players and DVD players are shifting significantly. Super VCD players will occupy 60%, VCD players about 30% and DVD players barely 10%.
Prices are decreasing drastically. The prices of VCD players and Super VCD players have been halved since 1998. The price of DVD players is three-fourths that of 1998. At present, DVD players of various brands cost under RMB 2,000 (US$242).
Analysis shows that VCD players are mainly entering the rural market, while half of Super VCD players are sold in that market. DVD players, on the other hand, have become the new favorite in the urban market.
The laser disk player market will grow more slowly next year than it has this year, but the market structure will change. DVD players will lead among high-income and younger age groups. Super VCD players will dominate the market, with most buyers being urbanites in middle- and low-income brackets. VCD players will gradually shift entirely to the rural market.

The estimated market demand for DVD players in the year 2000 will be nearly 5mln units, making up 30% of the laser disk player market. The demand for Super VCD players will be about 6.8mln units, or 40% of the market. And the demand for VCD players will be about 5mln units, the remaining 30% of the market.
