RE: "have a feeling that Intel is just beginning to grow"

Hi Monaco,

I think you're right. I suspect W2k is going to be good and that this could lift INTC. Also, Paul's post indicates Intel can reduce their costs in Q1-00, so this should be a nice potential lift for INTC too.

RE: "its grand plan as it manipulates the competition"

Here I disagree (if you mean, Intel's making mistakes on purpose?). But I suspect you meant something different - like - Intel is bringing in its dates due to competition, and that's aggravating its projects a bit. Probably very true. Come to think of it, why does Intel's mistakes gain so much visibility/PR? I can think of one company whose mistakes almost never get any PR? Maybe that's the difference between hardware & software cos. A software company can just fix things with a quick quiet patch, but a hardware company doesn't have this same luxury. Who knows. But I bet Intel's stumbling has created an artificial sense of security in the minds of the competition (and maybe this is what you meant), and I bet after 2000, the competition could very well be shaken. It sounds like AMD is having their good days now, but from what I've read about Willy & ITanium, AMD's days may end in a year or two. I think Athlon could extend AMD's life by two years. I just hope they don't find a ledge to stick onto - which can be done in higher margin markets. I hear from SI, that ITanium is a very good engineered product, however, I hope Intel gets as Salesy about ITanium as what AMD is reputed to be like because I think high-end sales (i.e. anything into the Enterprise) requires a Salesy approach, more than a Marketing approach (i.e. kind of like Sunw).

Hope you have a nice holiday.
Cheers, Amy J
