Cooters ---from Briefing .com---some comments
1)There was a twinge of disappointment that NOKIA was not the buyer due the added potential "Q" would have had for CDMA chipset sales
2)This is a good strategic moved for "Q" as it has rid itself of a low margin operation , picked up new business in the process and broadened it sales opportunities in the Asian market.
3)Just another day at the office for Qualcom management which certainly knows the meaning of building shareholder value

One item from Jacobs comments following the stockholders meeting has stuck with me as it relates to the phone division sale. In looking forward he said qcom was gearing toward a consumer phone upgrade cycle of 18 to 24 months.

I took that to mean that we are going to see an evolution in phone product similar to the pc. If he is correct, and I will bet with him, I sure wouldn't want to own a handset manufacturer regardless of its revenue generation. Just think for a minute of all the pc box manufacturers who no longer exist, or exist as mere shadows of their former shelves.

Cooters,

One of the things I like most about this deal is the Toyota tie-in. If they start adding CDMA based information systems into all the Camry's, 4-runners, Pick-ups, and Lexus sedans, to be sold in Japan and the US, this deal was a godsend. Last time I checked, NOK wasn't closely tied to any car builders...
