The arrangement to keep the Q's people (just leasing them for a three year period) and the key R&D involvement is a master stroke.

Worth all the complexity and "messiness" it took and will take.

This solution is elegant.

And the loyalty (with stock options vesting time as a bonus) is kept.

I think you are exactly right when you say that NOK and MOT would not be so open. They have the market now (even if non-CDMA) and are the ones with too much to lose. The one mistake I've seen Q make is that they can't decide which camp they want to be in. To make this work optimally the have to make a clean break.
