I've seen some that required going at barely above idle speed. And guys are out there in 12' jon boats. I also fish with a guy who had a 17' Nitro with a 150. Waves didn't matter to him, he always went 60+. Also split the boat in half. Bass Pro will sponsor him next year with one of their best so that problem is solved.
