There are gold bugs who don't believe in conspiracies. In the stock market you often get a short raid on a stock. Some would say this is a conspiracy to drive down the price of the stock. Others would regard it as a tactic to make a profit - with gold a large number have obviously profited from being short. I don't think this is a conspiracy. If the same people could profit from being long would this be a conspiracy? The POG is static at the moment which implies a kind of equilibrium. Since demand for fabrication exceeds mine production the excess into the market must still be coming from leasing,a nd the 300 ton/CB sales - built into the market price? - or perhaps from the gold carry trade - I don't think mine hedging changes much - so speculators, hedge fund managers and the like still find it pays to be short. Nobody knows in this business - but it might be a fair assumption that the hedge funds are the marginal and influential players. What will turn sentiment around?
