To my knowledge the reasons for murder are the following.(not given in any particular order).

Profit
Revenge
Jealousy
To cover up something
Homicidal Maniac

Of the above IMO a knife is more likely in either revenge, jealousy or homicidal mania because a knife is far more personal than a gun, and requires closer contact to the victim. A gun would be more likely in profit or cover up although homicidal mania again fits with a gun.

Your theory is homicidal mania but since there are little to no defensive wounds, the maniac IMO was probably known to Suzanne and not expected. The time involved here also indicates the same. The mania was already hightened before the encounter and trigered at point of encounter.

Still all leads back to IMO follow up on everyone from the Pizza Party.
