UBNetworks' First Nortel DMS-500 Switch Enters Service in Los Angeles Business Editors and High-Tech Writers LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 23, 1999--IJNT.net Inc. (OTC BB:IJNT), a leading integrated communications provider, Thursday announced that its UBNetworks subsidiary has officially placed its first Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) DMS-500 switch into operational service in the UBNetworks Los Angeles switching center. According to Winston Johnson, UBNetworks Chief Technical Officer: "Nortel's engineers officially completed their work on the switch installation last week and formally released the switch to us to commence operation. The switch is up and running; and we have begun beta tests of the 1-Meg Modem and other peripheral network elements connected to the switch and to our ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) backbone. We are already testing the monitoring functions in the network operations center as well, which permits our technical staff to observe and control all of the network elements from one location. Everything is running on schedule so far and the performance of the network has met or exceeded our expectations in each area. The support we have received from Nortel each step of the way has been tremendous." The DMS-500 switch offers over 100,000 ports, capable of handling hundreds of thousands of concurrent calls over digital or analog circuits and has an extensive list of capabilities for monitoring and control of the network as well as billing and management functions. In the configuration used by UBNetworks, the switch also includes Nortel's latest software and management system upgrades and features. Jon H. Marple, Chairman and CEO of UBNetworks, said: "Nortel has helped us tremendously to install this complex equipment and to place the switch in service in record time. The data network is already stabilized and undergoing testing of its various elements. We are gratified to be running ahead of schedule due to the hard work and dedication of our amazing UBNetworks engineering staff and our partners at Nortel."
