Jefferson Davis may be considered authoritative for the cause of secession. An amendment may be, in the long run, repealed, as was Prohibition. Although many in the North would not have fought the Civil War as a crusade, many would not have fought it on any other basis. Finally, it is absurd to cant on about self- determination, and to hold a multitude of persons, who did not forfeit their right through any crime, in bondage in perpetuity.....
