Actually in all the companies you mention in the fibre optic market you like the rest of the worl neglect the one with real
customers real revenues and real earnings CIEN.


Therein might lie their problem. I'm serious! (half). Once you have earnings, you have to grow them just right, or you get trashed. Hey, I didn't make it that way. As for the company Maffei went to, I'm sure he had numerous opportunities.

I know what JDSU does, and also a little about those others too.

Maffei has done a great job on the liquid cash investments as well as deal sifting IMO. Make no mistake, this is a very talented guy that's leaving.

However, I expect a smooth transition. Maffei's been very straight about this possibility for a good while now and I'm sure he wants to keep Gates as an ally. Conners is qualified and already intimately familiar with Gates and the company culture. This type of thing is business as usual for a large successful company.
