It would be interesting to know what people in many different cultures and speaking many different languages in many different epochs say or said instead of "Oh God," at such times. "Oh Zeus"? "Oh Osiris"? "Oh Baal"? Or is some non-deistic expression usual? I wonder if anyone has thought to check this out.
