Good Luck on your short!

You might, however, find more consistent success shorting companies that are clearly in a downtrend (like having broken either a trendline or a long term (100 or 200DMA) moving average....shorting a rocket based on the principle that what goes up must come down might best be done when one has unlimited funds and an eternity to wait for gravity to finally work on those issues that achieve orbit.

In the case of CMGI you might have better success for a brief period after the split occurs on 1/11/00....BWDIK?

Wish you a Happy Holiday and a Prosperous New Year!

I like your move Mike, at least it balances the mostly bullish posts on this thread, and I'm getting bothered by it as a long. The only thing is that those gifts might cost you more. Well that's life, you win some, you lose some. Happy Holidays everyone. It's been a wonderful year, thanks to DW.

FWIW,

You know it is very interesting that you choose this time to short CMGI. We would all agree that this is an unusual year with us sitting on the verge of Y2K so the markets could definitely do anything during the last week of trading.

However, having said that, given the way the markets have run and given that the DOW finally made a new high Friday may indicate that the market still wants to move up. From a historical perspective the last week in December in terms of market probability, the chance of the market rising on any given trading day is at its highest.

M-27...71.7%
T-28...51.1%
W-29...65.2%
T-30...73.3%
F-31...71.7%

There are only six trading days where the market probability comes out at 70% or greater in 1999. Don't you find it interesting that three of the six days come in the last trading week of the year?

Regards,

Mike Harvey: You obviously don't think there is great news coming next week. I pitty you bud... I really do. I would wish you luck, but I have 50 Calls I'm counting on to make me more money next week and going into the split. Sorry to hear this... boy did you make a HUGE mistake.
