Some tidbits from Hard-OCP

hardocp.com

The banner ad from PC-Nut (an outfit that sells overclocked CPU/motherboard combos and guarantees the performance and reliability of the parts at the overclocked speed) has been changed from 800 to 900 MHZ - but a visit to their web site shows the highest speed they're selling is still 800MHZ. They sell Athlon 500s OC'd to 750 to 800MHZ, Celeron 366s OC'd to 550MHZ nd PIII 450s OC'd to 600MHZ.

Maybe this is an indication that the .18 Athlons (available only at 550 & up) will generally run at 900MHZ with a decent fan and heatsink (just as the .25 500s usually were OK at 750MHZ).

Also, Hard-OCP has overclocked a .18 coppermine 500E. They were pretty happy with it, but couldn't get it to run at anything more than 750MHZ, and decided to leave it at no more than 630MHZ for extended use. They postulated that the speed was limited by the locked multiplier limiting speed due to the requirement that the FSB speed be increased in order to speed up the chip.
