The last time that we had this kind of winter, the mosquitoes weren't as bad as usual the next summer... It was a nice after-effect.

Did you know early spring warming can drive frost deeper?

Yes... exactly... About 5 years ago when we had this kind of a winter, the frost went deep into the ground in late winter. A lot of the students from the university lived in older houses near the university. The water supply to many of them froze in February and March. The city ended up being about 3 weeks behind in thawing water pipes. If you went into just about any washroom around campus, there were people brushing their teeth or in various degrees of undress washing themselves at the sinks. Also a pretty heavy demand for the showers in the athletic center locker rooms...
