Voice over the Internet is the next big thing in the telecommunications industry and Inprise is in the thick of it. Last July, they announced a strategic partnership with Telcordia, the world leading provider of Next Generation Network software. Telcordia will serve as a VAR, integrating Visibroker for CORBA into their software products, Call Agent and Operations Support Systems. These products were recently released and already have been adopted by Sprint and Videotron.

"These advanced products will provide communications service providers (i.e. cable companies, long distance carriers and competitive local exchange carriers) and enterprise customers with the tools they need to develop Next Generation Networks.", according to the Inprise press release last July. John Boese, VP for Advanced Network Systems at Telcordia said "We see Next Generation Networks, including convergence of voice, video, fax, and data, all on a single line, as the opportunity of the future,...". Industry analyst, Christin Armacost, essentially said the same during a recent interview by Radio WallStreet.

So, what we have here is Inprise positioned as an important player in several potentially explosive markets: Voice over IP, Linux, and ASP (considered by many to be the next big killer app) to mention three.
