Ramsey Su: I suggest that the most useful status report on CDMA in China has yet to be written. So far contradictory and confusing reports are all that have come out.

Suspect that is because sort of like the "Holy Wars" days on CDMA/GSM, various "sources" (usually from the GSMers) are planting stories.

And there are still the old guard in the MII who see the status quo (GSM uber alles) as best to maintain their power, and then the new guard who see change - adding CDMA - (cutting down the stranglehold the MII has) as in their interest.

And of course the Europeans are all for GSM forever (well at least as long as possible), and the rest of the world (particularly including Korea and the ascendant CDMA One -ers in Japan - now including KYO) for the most rapid possible introduction and roll out of CDMA One countrywide, then move quickly on a data upgrade path through 1XRTT and HDR toward CDMA 2000.

All of this is underway now.

Therefore what we read depends on where is comes from.

You are probably a good judge of that, so how about helping us out on how much weight to give to what, depending on the source..

PS I will take seriously anything Dr J says himself. He is cautious.
