One of their strengths and of course thei risks of their buisness would seem to the high volume production of perfect products. It would seem that their uniqueness must
be related to their success in producing the product at high volumes at the same time demand is ramping up at a price that is acceptable to the application. I think it could be the combination of staying one step ahead and anticipating demand for new products they have already proven techniques to manufacture that makes this company particularly attractive.

Does CREE have some architecture that everybody must accept and build around?

imo yes. silcon carbide. cree is the only company to demonstrate the ability to mass produce high quality SiC crystals. the process is of course covered by a broad patent portfolio.

In my experience, devices sooner or later can be copied.

this begs another question...can it be done outside cree's patents?

not through some particularly fancy device

i have become quite enamored (i am certain that is obvious.) by the fancy devices, that cree's products are currently replacing. products like the light bulbs in automobile dashboards. i am also keen on some of the new fancy devices using cree devices such as the new nokia cell phone. i ask myself what other light bulb apps will cree replace and what other new products will use cree devices as production continues to ramp?
i am anxious to hear about the use of SiC in broadband devices. cree has indicated product announcements may come next quarter.

Cree could be a king of the SiC

i agree...at least a king

I'd sell the CREE and buy more GMST

lost me there...presently, cree is growing revenues some 250% faster than gmst. with the new production coming on line over the next 10 months coupled with the larger crystal and the increase in yield, i don't see that gap closing in the immediate future.

i must also say that i am quite enamored with gmst's prospects as well and have nearly equal positions in both.
