Big Bull (OT), Also the "Defenders" was another agrarian resistance group. W. Fant founded the Whiteboys in 1660 in the Limerick area. They later in 1698 (after William had passed away) changed their name to the East Limerick Brigade of the Irish Republican Army. William's brother by the way was found guilty of anti-crown activities and swung the yardarm.

The IRA of course until 1922 was a legitimate resistance army up to Ireland proper's independence. After 1922 terrorists took over the name after the main independence army had disbanded and used it to cause problems in Northern Ireland, the part of the Island maintained by the United Kingdom, and the name fell into serious disrepute...
