I'm just stating the FACTS that most IT managers prefer
and use Suns.

Maybe now, but as I've been trying to say, things can change. Here's an absurd analogy for my final post to you on the subject: the Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek and Roman societies were all #1 in their times, but they all went down.

Re: most IT managers prefer and use Suns

It's also true that most IT managers prefer and use Intel servers. Almost all major companies have both. However, they generally tend to have more Intel servers than Suns. And you will find that a couple of technicians will be looking after tens or hundreds of Intel boxes whilst a couple of technicians will likely be looking after less than 10 Sun machines. Cost of ownership as well as cost of purchase is much lower for the same performance with Intel than it is with Sun. This is becoming more so each month.

There is an argument that Sun servers are more reliable than Intel servers, but that is down to the flexibility of the Intel servers and the fact that companies tend to choose to put so much garbage (in terms of software) on them. My experience of well implemented Wintel servers is that they are extremely reliable. If there were as many uses and as much third party software being run on Sun, the Sun machines would struggle.

As far as Sun being more scalable - those days are over.
