I predict: If the market continues at its current pace for 12 more months, without any sort of serious correction, then by Dec 31, 2000, capitalism in this country will be gone, and replaced by a socialist government. You people simply arent thinking. Do you honestly believe every man woman and mutual fund can continue to bid up shares of MSFT and Yahoo forever? Do you think anyone will notice when MSFT surpasses the GDP of planet earth? All of this pyramid scheme is fine and dandy, until it collapses. What then? After it has sucked every available dollar (including the trillions of new ones that our senile friend greenspan is printing at breakneck speed) into its ponzi extravaganza, what happens when it falls? The 1929 crash threw us into a depression until world war II snapped us out of it. And by any measure, the market was staggeringly UNDERVALUED back then compared to the insane valuations we have now. And public participation is at least 10x greater now than then. Folks, we wont have a depression, we're going to have civil war. Mobs with torches walking up the Kleiner Perkins mountain, trying to locate where all their wealth went.. dogs and cats sleeping together... Jeff Bezos forced to pull his old honda station wagon out of retirement so he can get to the shoe factory at 7am for his manual labor job making nikes for the now-wealthy-by-comparison-Tiawanese consumers.. But we did it to ourselves. Our limitless appetite for speculation was matched only by our gullibility, as any self respecting wall street analyst could have told us 5 years ago. Somehow I feel like the father on "Family Guy" tonight. After Y2K resulted in armageddon, with nuclear destruction for all, he kept going around and saying "I told you so I told you so!".. Even though he was living in the same squalor and decay as everyone else at that point. Somehow I think I'll hate being right about Economic Violence and Tough Love. But I'll get at least one "I told you so" ;)
