Ish, you just don't get it. Don't retire and draw benefits until you are 70, and earn all you wish. True, you will pay income tax on 85 % of benefits if you earn too much other stuff. Of course if you had rented out your land instead of treating it as a farm, you would have paid no self-employment tax on it, and could have retired when you wished.
Did you think that Gore and Bradley are not in Social Security? All it takes is 40 quarters of coverage (earning $50 bucks or more a quarter), and I am sure both of them earned that in private employment and the service when young. Federal employees, of course, have their own scam (which isn't fully funded either.) The gas is that they will both receive a higher fraction of their contributions as minimum benefits than either of us will.
Instead of whining (I hate rich men who whine about how the government is gypping them), why don't you find out your benefits and tell us what they will be. And just for fun, why don't you tell us if you accepted Farm Payments this year? I did. I got $402 dollars (%20 of my farm profits this year -- a really lousy year, but I got my seed back -- not the chemicals). I just received the final payment, $1.02. Almost as contemptible as the $.50 checks every quarter from ADM.
