nsol - it has enjoyed a virtual monopoly in ".com" and ".net" domain registrations

new news has network solutions looking at finding ways to separate its business lines since icann (the internet naming body) has come up with guidelines for registration of domains being more open

i think there's a lot of value in network solutions database of users and businesses, the kinds of services that they possibly could offer website owners of all sizes

as a meta search engine for domains that may be one possibility, the ultimate directory

a threat could come from 'realnames' the more natural-language naming system where yoy type in a name without any www or .com and it comes up for those who've bought realnames

internet explorer 5.0 supports this, just type in the natural-language company name in the address line, if they've bought the realname it should go to the website of that company or realname

network solutions does, however, own a piece of realnames, it invested awhile ago

a good move for them and i think realnames may be going public soon
