<<I want to pay off my debts (mortgage included) so that I owe nobody a cent.>>

Debt management is an art too, keep low cost debts on the books. Now in US your interest payment on debt or mortgage on the house is tax free, if I am not wrong, when you pay your debt back you are actually refusing a relief. I would think that when you have enough to pay your debt back you can easily buy some TB's for long term or some solid Warren Buffet kind of stock and of course an insurance that in case of tragedy the kids may be able to repay the mortgage this management of debt is to be organised, one of my sisters she has no debt and all equity houses but she has little cash too and she pays very high tax since she has nothing for deduction, she dosent want to owe anyone anything. So, I would suggest when and ever we are helped by God we should try to get good professional advice on debt management.

I always highlight need to leveraging ones exposure so that to get a maximum bang out of minimum cash on trading, on the other hand your core posrtfolio should always look at oversold opportunities and you should keep adding them, now I am not an expert on debt maangement but using cheap money and making higher returns is the most justifable way to increase your personal holdings but take care that your allocation of assets should be just right. I will welcome further discusisons by some experts on this..
