When you look at the overall market, Mad2, losers out numbered winners by a large margin. Yet thousands of ignorant, naive bubbleheads made money, often much more money than the accumulated wise heads on Wall Street.

If you're not into stockpicking, then buy a few index funds and catch a few games on cable instead.

But I disagree with the thesis that all traders must inevitably be beaten down to the 12% per annum average that the Street tries to dictate. The permabears there are pissed off because they lost control of the game the past few years.

That's why they can't come out with a coherent message about where the markets went wrong. Dazed and confused, seems to me.

That reminds me of an old Robin Williams joke about the UN: it's a traffic cop on Valium standing in the middle of the road saying,"Stooooppppp.....stoooooopppppp........."
